About me

I’m Jochen Abitz.

I design websites and build my own apps. My eye for type and design shapes both.

From type to digital design.

My eye for type, readability and design started with my training as a typesetter and my work in prepress. I held senior positions at several printing companies and publishers.

Over the years, I moved into web design and programming. I’m German and now live in Denmark, where I work full-time as an independent designer and developer.

For me, design starts with type.

An eye for typography.

I care about proportion, readability and how type works with images. That shapes my work, whether I’m designing a website or an app.

Designing and building.

I design websites and write the code that makes them work. Doing both means I can take an idea all the way through to a working app.

Turning my own ideas into tools.

I sell my own tools and projects on stackswork.com. I also build my macOS app Beam myself, from the first idea through design and development.

Always curious about what’s possible.

I’m part of the Total CMS 3 beta team, so I get to know new features early. I try them out and see which ones could be useful in my own work and client projects.

Working directly with me.

I work with small and medium-sized businesses in Germany, Denmark and beyond. You talk directly with me about the design and how things should work. I want to understand what matters to you and explain my choices clearly.
